Trimmings : Declerq Passementier's Mastery of Excellence
Trimmings details the history of Declercq’s passementerie, the fine art of detail in haute couture. In 1852, Joseph Bertaud bought a small trimmings factory in Paris that had been making passementerie since 1760.Although passementerie—the woven textile accessories adorning furniture and clothing in the form of a fringe, tassel, braid, crest, and beyond—reached France in the Middle Ages, the house continues to uphold the excellence and pass down the history of the Declercq Passementiers factory 170 years later.Having collaborated with major institutions such as Versailles and Chantilly and prestigious decorators and architects such as Jacques Grange, Patrick Frey, Franck Sorbier, Mathieu Lehanneur, Michel Charrière, Joseph Achkar, Jamie Drakeet, Gabhan O’Keefe, and François-Joseph Graf, the factory has withstood the test of time and adapted to the fluctuating fashions in vogue in decoration. In the elegant Trimmings: Declerq Passementier’s Mastery of Excellence filled with archival photographs of the factory’s rich history juxtaposed with modern photographs by Alexandre Réty of the rich fabrics and material, journalist Catherine Deydier unwinds the thread of Declercq’s family legacy, guides us through the factory workshops and technique, and interviews some of the greatest textile designers.

The Church after Innovation – Questioning Our Obsession with Work, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship
Outreach 2023 Resource of the Year (Church)Named One of Fifteen Important Theology Books of 2022, Englewood Review of BooksChurches and their leaders have innovation fever.Innovation seems exciting--a way to enliven tired institutions, embrace creativity, and be proactive--and is a superstar of the business world. But this focus on innovation may be caused by an obsession with contemporary relevance, creativity, and entrepreneurship that inflates the self, lacks theological depth, and promises burnout. In this follow-up to Churches and the Crisis of Decline, leading practical theologian Andrew Root delves into the problems of innovation. He explores where innovation and entrepreneurship came from, shows how they break into church circles, and counters the "new imaginations" like neoliberalism and technology that hold the church captive to modernity.Root reveals the moral visions of the self that innovation and entrepreneurship deliver--they are dependent on workers (and consumers) being obsessed with their selves, which leads to significant faith-formation issues. This focus on innovation also causes us to think we need to be singularly unique instead of made alive in Christ.Root offers a return to mysticism and the poetry of Meister Eckhart as a healthier spiritual alternative. This is the fifth book in Root's Ministry in a Secular Age series.

Liberalism with Excellence
During the past several decades, political philosophers have frequently clashed with one another over the question whether governments are morally required to remain neutral among reasonable conceptions of excellence and human flourishing.Whereas the numerous followers of John Rawls (and kindred philosophers such as Ronald Dworkin) have maintained that a requirement of neutrality is indeed incumbent on every system of governance, other philosophers -- often designated as 'perfectionists' -- have argued against the existence of such a requirement. Liberalism with Excellence enters these debates not by plighting itself unequivocally to one side or the other, but instead by reconceiving each of the sides and thus by redirecting the debates that have occurred between them. On the one hand, the book rejects the requirement of neutrality by contending that certain subsidies for the promotion of excellence in sundry areas of human endeavour can be proper and vital uses of resources by governments.Advocating such departures from the constraint of neutrality, the book presents a version of liberalism that can rightly be classified as 'perfectionist'.On the other hand, the species of perfectionism espoused in Liberalism with Excellence diverges markedly from the theories that have usually been so classified.Indeed, much of the book assails various aspects of those theories. What is more, the aspirational perfectionism elaborated in the closing chapters of the volume is reconcilable in most key respects with a suitably amplified version of Rawlsianism.Hence, by reconceiving both the perfectionist side and the neutralist side of the prevailing disputation, Liberalism with Excellence combines and transforms their respective insights.

What is the difference between talent and skill?
Talent is a natural ability or aptitude that a person is born with, while skill is something that is acquired through practice, training, and experience. Talent is innate and often sets the foundation for developing skills in a particular area. Skills, on the other hand, can be learned and honed over time with dedication and effort. Talent can give someone a head start in acquiring skills, but ultimately, both talent and skill are important for achieving success in any field.

Does creativity decrease with age?
Creativity does not necessarily decrease with age. While some studies suggest that certain aspects of creativity may decline as individuals get older, such as the ability to generate new ideas or think flexibly, other research indicates that older adults can still be highly creative in different ways. Factors such as experience, wisdom, and expertise gained over time can contribute to unique and valuable creative contributions from older individuals. Ultimately, creativity can manifest differently at different stages of life, with opportunities for innovation and originality existing at any age.

Intelligence and talent are related but not synonymous. Intelligence typically refers to cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, reasoning, and memory, while talent often refers to a natural aptitude or skill in a specific area. While intelligence can contribute to talent, talent can also be developed through practice and hard work. Therefore, while intelligence can enhance talent, they are not interchangeable terms.
